Do you have a piece of Williamson County history?

The WCHM has relied on the kindness of donors since its inception. This is especially true of our collections. If you have something you’d like to donate, we would like you to take a moment to read our mission statement below. It will help you better understand our collecting focus.

Donations to WCHM

WCHM actively collects artifacts for its collections. We are looking for quality artifacts that are documented or can be documented as to provenance, date, age, etc. The quality and historical relevance of collections objects is stressed over the condition of the collections objects.

There are specific criteria, means, and stipulations applying to all of the Museum’s acquisitions. But if it has historical significance that matches our focus, we would like to have it. Sometimes we accept donations of items strictly for purposes of education and interpretation and not as part of our permanent collection.

Mission Statement

The purpose of the WCHM is to collect, preserve, and interpret for the public benefit, education, and enjoyment, the historical heritage of Williamson County, Texas.

If you have an object with a great Williamson County story or connection and are interested in possibly donating that object, please contact Lisa E. Worley, Museum Curator, to discuss your options at 512-943-1673 or lworley@wilco.org.

If you prefer to write, please address your letter to:

  • Williamson County Historical Museum
    Attn: Lisa E. Worley
    716 S. Austin Ave.
    Georgetown, Texas 78626

WCHM must evaluate all items offered to the Museum’s collection before formally accepting them for our collection, which is why initially you will sign a temporary custody receipt. The evaluation process can take up to four months to complete. The more information you are able to provide us on the history of the item, the easier it will make the evaluation process. Once the WCHM decides to add your item to our collection, we will send you a gift agreement to sign and return. This transfers ownership of the donated item to the WCHM.

If you have any questions about the donation process, or would like to read a copy of the WCHM’s Collections Management Policy to better understand our collecting policies, please email lworley@wilco.org.
