Swedish Immigrants in Williamson County

  • Why did the first Swedish immigrants come to Texas?

  • What did they experience when they arrived?

  • What hardships did they face?

  • How did they handle the Texas climate?

The Williamson County Historical Museum will answer these questions and more with its newest exhibit, From Småland, Sweden, to Big Land Texas.

Opening in late January 2008, the exhibit will run for one year and will include a component traveling educational trunk for area schools. After the exhibit’s run is over, WCHM will develop a companion traveling exhibit available for audiences all over Texas.

WCHM would not be able to tell the story of Swedish immigration to Texas and Williamson County, without the support of generous donors.  Many donors made contributions to the exhibit in memory of their Swedish ancestors.  For photographs and names, click here
